An idea I want to push - The kiwi boots/shoe, exploring New Zealanders work ethic, our culture. Here the painting is expressive, loose and full of colour.

This was the sight along our coast, back in 2009, drift wood, trees uprooted and sea weed amongst other life forms washed up and dumped onto our shore. Here I have visually captured the debris left behind after such turmoil out at sea, through expressive line, colour and form. Currently for sale at Ujazzi Cafe Napier Playing homage to the beautiful woman Pania of the sea. Here I have captured Pania, looking longingly at her home as she thinks of Karitoki. People say at times you can hear Pania on the reef calling, calling, ever calling. Longing for the love of her lost husband. The emotions of this great Legend have been captured through expressive brush stroke work, form and tonal range of colour. Pania on a rock in her long gaze out to the Pacific Ocean is framed by a Pohutukawa and Norfolk Pine tree found on the Marine Parade of Napier. SOLD Prints are available Colours and expressive brush strokes were intuitively expressed onto the canvas. Energy and shapes portray an environment of tree like objects, light, sky and leaves amongst other things in a whirl wind flight of activity. On the top right a bird like from evolves, this bird is encouraged and given bird like qualities until it feels compelled to fit within the natural habitat of the painting This is your new blog post. The power of Nature and its Forces, this partly abstracted painting conveys waves and currents, bird life/gulls and schools of fish within the Ocean. I have captured nature and life through a composition of expressive line form and colour, when looking out over the Pacific with Cape kidnappers in the distance. Inspired to capture my home Napier Bluff Hill on canvas in an abstract expressionist style. I have recently been studying William De Kooning and Cecily Brown and have been inspired to give abstraction a go. I look forward to creating more abstract art as I enjoyed randomly putting the brush strokes down onto the painting.
Inspired at the gardens in the school holidays to capture family nestled naturally in the beautiful grand old tree! This was pained in acrylic paints, and I concentrated on the tonal values by using a limited palette of Earth Colours such as Burnt umber, ochre, Sienna, and naples yellow for the high lights and lastly an added hint of green in the background. My niece asked if I would paint a picture of her with her cousins dancing in the moonlight for her birthday. This was carried out graphically using a limited palette of black, white and silver a truly effective end result, still a favourite of mine!
